Dynamic Biscuit Manufacturer Entering New Markets

The West India Biscuit Company Ltd. (WIBISCO), with a history dating back to a bakery founded in Barbados in 1910, is one of the oldest established commercial bakeries in the Caribbean. With a long history of producing quality baked biscuits, WIBISCO has grown into one of the region’s most dynamic and successful companies. Now part of the Bermudez Group, WIBISCO has doubled its turnover over the past eight years and achieved US$22.5 million in revenues in 2013.

Adrian Padmore, General Manager of WIBISCO, explains, “We have built up a strong team of 275 employees and we distribute our products in 22 markets, including the UK, the US (Miami and New York), Canada (Toronto), Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and of course all over Barbados.” WIBISCO exports around half its production and aims to move into new international markets, including Brazil and the EU.

The West India Biscuit Company Ltd is one of Barbados’ key exporters, and with a solid footing in the local manufacturing industry, is committed to playing a key role in developing the national economy. To maintain its growth trend, the company invested in a new, larger warehouse facility five years ago.

Customer favourites for over 100 years

Defining his company’s competitive edge, Mr. Padmore says, “We have a strong, decisive, change-embracing management team that is constantly devising plans to build the WIBISCO business. We want people to be aware of our corporate image and our brand name as well as of our top-selling biscuits. We have been in business for over 100 years and look forward to further growth and development in the future.” WIBISCO’s iconic products include Shirley biscuits, which has been a customer favourite for over 60 years.

As WIBISCO continues to enter new markets worldwide, it will remain committed to the high standards that have made its biscuits household names for generations. Mr. Padmore concludes, “Our world-class quality products belong on supermarket shelves around the world and in everyone’s home.”
