Traveler’s Apartments and Suites: A Home Far From Home in Bogota

Long before government incentives in the tourism sector caused hotels and serviced apartments to spring up across Bogota, Hernando Davila Pena, founder of Travelers Apartments and Suites, was catering to international travelers visiting Bogota on business. From a modest start with just two rooms in Bogota’s swanky Zone Six, Travelers now operates more than 300 apartments in some of Colombia’s most desirable locales, from Medellin to Cali, Cartagena to Baranquilla, with a new property opening soon in Bucaramanga.

“Our business model is really a hybrid,” Davila Pena explains. “We offer amenities typically found in hotels such as daily maid service and buffet breakfasts, with the comfort of a fully equipped apartment. Our daily rates are comparable to four star hotels, while our monthly rates, which factor in a 35% discount, make us an attractive alternative to real estate companies who only provide the apartment.”

The one, two and three bedroom apartments feature fully equipped kitchens, incorporating everything from pots and pans to can openers and coffee makers. “Individuals traveling can’t very easily entertain guests in a hotel room. I think the social spaces in our apartments – the kitchen, living and dining rooms – really enhance the ‘home far from home’ feeling.”

The group’s growth has also had much to do with Hernando Davila Pena’s painstaking attention to detail. “The apartment locations are chosen very meticulously. I make sure that they’re in exclusive and safe neighborhoods, and are located next to malls for convenience so that the kitchens will actually be used.”

More than thirty years since its inception, Travelers is still growing. The group’s winning formula, which combines the luxuries of hotel life with the space and freedom of apartment living, will undoubtedly continue to inspire a loyal following.
